What is NEAR?

NEAR is an ideal organization established in the summer of 1995, gathering people with any interest in rockets. We span the whole area of rocketry, from small models made of paper, balsa and with ready-to-fly black powder motors to large experimental composite, liquid and hybrid rocket motors made of steel, aluminum and carbon fibre.

Our goal

Our goal is to develop and build rockets. We always seek to build rockets that go higher, faster and that are easier and more economic to build. The rockets are becoming more and more stable and we wish to use them for more than developing them further. One very interesting possibility is to let students use rockets for science projects, such as on-board computer, atmospheric instrumentation, you name it!

Our ambitions

• We wish to promote the exploration of space, and the development of space-related technologies.
• To improve space-related education through hands-on projects.
• To share the new knowledge acquired from space and space related development.
• We provide the forum through which rocket and space enthusiasts can become involved in rocket and space research.

Who are we?

We are rocket enthusiasts from all over Norway, with an interest in rocketry. Typically the members are focused on the rockets themselves, but the club need people in many different areas, as there's a lot of functions to cover before a rocket launch. There is also a social aspect, we get together from time to time to discuss the ongoing projects, new projects and develop the NEAR society even further.
